Why buy as a set?
The Aksen 45mm covers one to five times magnification, and the Aksen 17.5mm picks up seamlessly from five to ten times. Together they give a continuous range from 1× to 10× — no gap, no extension tubes and no compromise of having to work at the edge of a lens's range where optical performance falls away.
In practice that means finding the subject and capturing the detail happen with the same toolset. An insect is shown in its surroundings at 1× to 2×, then you switch to the second lens to isolate the compound eye or wing scales at 8× or 10×. Because both lenses are parfocal and offer comparable working distances, most of the lighting setup can stay in place.
What the set contains
Both lenses are supplied in the mount you select, each with front and rear caps. The 45mm maintains a constant working distance of around 40.35 mm from the front element across its entire zoom range, and its physical length stays unchanged because the zoom is internal. Both optics are consistently apochromatically corrected, so colour fringing on hard edges stays under control even at high magnifications — something that pays off particularly in stacking sequences, where such errors would otherwise accumulate across many slices.

Manufacturer data from Venus Optics
Venus Optics officially offers both Aksen lenses as a 2-lens bundle – exactly this combination of the 45mm f/2.8 1–5X and the 17.5mm f/1.7 5–10X. The series holds a TIPA World Award and is listed by the manufacturer as the world’s first parfocal macro zoom and the first commercially available lens beyond 5x magnification.
The official data sheets show why the two are conceived as a pair: the 45mm covers 1X to 5X at a constant 41.35 mm working distance (13 elements in 9 groups, 11 aperture blades, Ø56 mm front diameter, Ø70.2 × 121 mm, 599 g), while the 17.5mm picks up at 5X and runs to 10X at 22.48 mm working distance (17 elements in 12 groups, 11 aperture blades, Ø42 mm front diameter, Ø70.2 × 127.5 mm, 570 g). Together they cover 1X to 10X without a gap.
Barrel diameter is an identical 70.2 mm on both lenses – which is why a single tripod collar fits either one. Venus Optics also lists the Leofoto MP-180S macro focusing rail, the WeMacro electronic slider bundle and a USB coaxial light (Ø8 mm, 3 W LED) as accessories.

Compatible accessories
Tripod collar with 15 mm rods – transfers the weight directly to the tripod, relieves the camera bayonet and accepts follow focus units or lighting solutions (RRP 99,– €, included with the Cine versions).
Interchangeable bayonet mounts for the Arri PL version – available for Sony FE, Canon EF, Canon RF, Nikon Z, Fuji X, MFT and L-Mount (RRP 65,– € each).
